Ancient Greek (i.e. Classical Literary Attic) is the medium in which much of the philosophical and literary vocabulary of the West was first worked out. It is the language of Plato and Aristotle, of Sophocles and Euripides, of Thucydides and the orators. Like Sanskrit, it is an Indo-European language, and it shares a grammatical structure which makes the passage between the two languages remarkably illuminating in both directions.

Our series in Ancient Greek is aimed at anyone with some prior ancient-language skills: whether you already know some Sanskrit, some Latin, or have other more general experience with language learning or comparative and Indo-European philology. Students begin with Greek for Sanskritists and progress to reading Plato and Sophocles. Designed for Sanskritists, comparativists, and readers who want a second classical language.
