Latin is the classical language of Rome and of the Western intellectual tradition—the language of a millennium and a half of European philosophy, science, and letters. It is also, like Sanskrit, an Indo-European language: the two share a deep grammatical architecture—a similar case system, verbal categories, and related ancient roots—which makes each classical language a powerful lens on the other.

Our series in Latin is aimed at anyone with some prior ancient-language skills: whether you already know some Sanskrit, some Greek, or have other more general experience with language learning or comparative and Indo-European philology. Students begin with Latin for Sanskritists and progress to the writings of Ovid and Seneca. The series is designed for Sanskritists, comparativists, and readers who want a second classical language.
