Most people think of yoga as a philosophy or mind-body practice or perhaps a meditative exercise. But what if ideas of yoga also have something to say about politics and power? This course will introduce students to a novel history of yoga as a theory of politics and power, one that intersects with but is also distinct from both spiritual philosophy and mind-body practice. This course traces ideas about yoga as politics and power from India’s most ancient texts to the modern period.
